Me, a jaded hipster?
“Therefore, you should proceed with caution if you are a jaded hipster who is suspicious of feeling healthy and happy. Ask yourself: “Am I ready to stop equating cynicism with insight? Do I dare take the risk that exposing myself to uplifting entertainment might dull my intelligence?” If you doubt your ability to handle relaxing breakthroughs, you should avoid reading the ‘Free Will Astrology’ horoscopes.”
My dearest friend Gretchen lives her life based on signs, clues, and astrology. Every week we have a discussion about what Rob Brezsny’s horoscope tells us (me a cancer, her a Leo). . . Now sometimes the astrology is pretty silly and usually the stuff I read in the newspaper is never ever right. And then there is the whole “being a Christian” deal. I believe God has set a path for me, and thanks to free will I can choose to follow Him and trust that the unknown won’t kill me (immediately anyway), or think that I am in charge of my lot and everything else is chance. Usually the latter gets me in trouble. This is where I appreciate the astrology. Sometimes it just snapped me out of my everyday comatose and helps me to take stock of what I seem to be doing to myself. Am I jaded hipster? YES. Do I fear light-hearted entertainment? YES. Do I take myself too seriously? YES. And can a breakthrough be relaxing???? I had no idea, I thought tears, sadness, anger, and hangovers were part of that.
